Apple MacBook Review

Yes, Apple’s new MacBook, which we’ve been waiting for a while, finally got our hands on it. For the new MacBook , which is also known as the thinnest and lightest notebook ever produced , I think we would not be wrong if we say that it has actually acquired the look of a laptop computer. We’re going to explain all the curious details about the new MacBook, so let’s get started quickly.

Highlights

If you remember, we recently reviewed Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display . This time, we have a 12-inch MacBook with Retina display. Let’s quickly list the highlights of the new MacBook.

First of all, as we said before, this device is currently the thinnest and lightest notebook Apple has ever produced. Reaching 0.35mm at its thinnest point, the MacBook is only 1.31mm at its thickest . The weight of the MacBook is only 920 grams . This is the most obvious proof that the iPad is the notebook version in terms of design.

Drawing attention with its renewed keyboard, MacBook also offers us the new Force Touch trackpad. Working with an Intel Core M processor, the device was produced with a fanless design. This causes it to be called the first fanless Mac .

Of course, another point that draws attention in the new MacBook is the popular USB-C port. MacBook, which removes all other ports with this port, what else does it offer us? Let’s take a closer look at it.

Minimalist design

The MacBook, which is very thin, very light and very stylish with its design, has fine design details. The unibody aluminum body features an unlit Apple logo on its back. When you open the cover of the device, you encounter an impressive keyboard and a large trackpad. Especially the keyboard keys with reduced height and thin edge lines look really stylish. When you touch the keyboard, we believe that the fans will be interested in the fact that the keys provide extremely comfortable typing.

The MacBook, which is on the shelves in gold, silver and space gray color options, is silver with the model we have. We mentioned that he carries a 12-inch screen on it. We’ll tell you more about the display later in our review, but before we get there, let’s talk about the new MacBook’s most talked about USB-C port.

Around the MacBook, there is only a USB-C port and a headphone and microphone jack. Other than these, there is no other port . This enabled the device to have a more minimal concept in terms of design. But we cannot go without saying that it creates a disadvantage in terms of usage.

It is possible to obtain additional outputs such as HDMI, USB and VGA from this USB-C port by using additional devices to be purchased. But let’s also say that this is not currently presented in the box. The box contains only the charging cable and adapter, that’s all.

Going back to the trackpad, the trackpad here also offers us Force Touch, as we have seen on the new MacBook Pro before. The Force Touch trackpad, which does not have mechanical parts, allows us to use more precisely. Force Touch trackpad, which can provide instant feedback when you touch it, does not contain mechanical parts under it. By gradually applying pressure to the trackpad, you can allow it to perform different actions. You can customize and make it more functional by making all the settings related to this trackpad from the System Preferences section.

Technicial Specifications

Let’s look at the technical details of the new MacBook. The new MacBook features a fanless Intel Core M processor. The dual-core processor running at 1.1 GHz can reach up to 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost. 8 GB of RAM is found in the technical staff as 1600 MHz DDR3. Again in the graphics processor house , we see the HD Graphics 5300 unit of Intel . We will talk about how the device, which offers 256 GB storage capacity, performs in the light of this information, with the test results.

The MacBook, which owns a 12-inch screen with a resolution of 2304×1440 pixels , produces images in 16:10 format. The screen, which owns the LED backlight, can offer a viewing angle of up to 178 degrees thanks to IPS technology. The image it presents is already enormous …

The MacBook, which has a 480p FaceTime camera on it, let’s say that it supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 in the wireless connection point, although it brings HDMI, VGA and USB ports externally.

The list of the software brought by the MacBook that comes with the X Yosamite operating system is as follows:

– iPhoto
– iMovie
– Garageband
– Pages
– Numbers
– Keynote
– Maps
– iBooks
– Safari
– Mail
– Messages
– FaceTime
– Calendar
– Contacts
– Time Machine
– Photo Booth
– Mac App Store
– iTunes
– Game Center

– Reminders

Performance and Benchmark

The new MacBook uses Intel’s Core M processor, as we just said. The Core M platform of Intel, which has low power consumption and is under Intel Core i3 , i5 and i7 processors, shows a sufficient performance for daily use with this notebook.

Xbench: All: 314.66; CPU: 202.72

Cinebench R15 (CPU): Single Core: 98cb; Multi Core: 209 cb; Open GL: 19.05 FPS

Unigine Heaven 4.0: Medium Quality (1680×1050): Score: 219; FPS: 8.7

Unigine Heaven 4.0: Ultra Quality (1680×1050): Score: 153; FPS: 6.1

NovaBench: Score: 500; Chart: 29

Batman: Arkham City: Minimum 13 FPS, Maximum 25 FPS, Average 19 FPS, (1440×900)

Tomb Raider: Medium Quality Minimum 6 FPS, Maximum 11.7 FPS, Average 8.7 FPS

Geekbench 3: (Single Core): 2,299; (Multi Core): 4,423

Battery Life: 7 hours 5 minutes

In particular, according to the Geekbench 3 result, the MacBook, which scored 4.423 points in the Multi Core test, performs 46 percent slower than the previous Retina MacBook Pro with 2.7 GHz Core i5. If you are one of those who are thinking of working on video files regularly, this MacBook is not for you. As reflected in the test results, the new MacBook is not a powerhouse. However, Apple’s claim with this device is not in this direction. Apple appeals to those who want to own an ultra-thin, ultra-light and stylish MacBook with this device.

Before punctuating this step, let’s talk about the battery test we applied to the MacBook. We performed our scenario in the battery test we applied to the MacBook, which claims to have a battery life of 9 to 10 hours, while streaming HD video over Wi-Fi at the third stage brightness. The result we got turned out to be 7 hours and 5 minutes . That means it doesn’t have great battery life, but it’s not bad either. Of course, it is clear that it will be possible to see 9 hours by lowering the screen brightness or in different scenarios.

Summing up

Apple’s new MacBook is not for everyone. It attracts attention as a product that should not be missed by those who want to have a very thin, very light and very stylish Apple product. It can be easily preferred for daily use rather than intensive processing performance.

We also have to say that we like the Force Touch trackpad and keyboard, and the speakers sound extremely good. The screen, on the other hand, offers a striking performance with its viewing angle and color quality. Another important point in the new MacBook, where the USB port is felt, is of course the high price tag. The current version of the 12-inch MacBook with Retina display is available for $ 4299 , and this has a huge impact on its narrowing of its target audience.

Who Should Buy

The new 12-inch MacBook draws attention as a product that should not be missed by those who want to have a very thin, very light and very stylish Apple product.
