Lenovo Legion 5 Review

Legion 5 , whose name has been changed a little this year, is  a product that reached us with serious effort on design.

Lenovo  used a black plastic case called Phantom Black in this model  , as we are used to, the upper part is textured. The material quality is again extremely successful and the first good news awaits us after the screen that we can open with one hand. The  frame around the 15.6 inch Full HD 144Hz IPS panel (especially below) has become slightly thinner and the camera fortunately retains its place above the bezel. The 0.9MP camera with 720p resolution is not very ambitious as you can imagine. Still, it is more than enough for your daily work and meetings.

As you know, the design, which is the trademark of Lenovo Legion , allows the panel to be tilted 180 degrees back. Although its usability is limited because the screen is not touchscreen  , it should be noted that the  25 mm front screen is a very interesting and original design choice, especially among gaming laptops. The 4 zone RGB keyboard used in the product is not mechanical (chicklet) but sensitive and comfortable enough. The weight of the product is 2.47kg, so it is neither light nor heavy. Unfortunately, this weight  does not include the 880 gram 230W adapter that feeds the RTX 2060 .

Coming to the bottom of the case, the configuration we used was using an  Intel Core i7-10750H  processor,  16GB DDR4 2933Mhz RAM ,  Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 6GB  graphics card. Nowadays, when ray tracing is getting more widespread, Legion 5 fully supports this and it is strong enough to overcome the technology that is burdensome to this system. I’m not going back to the details of what Ray Tracing is. On the storage side, there are 1TB HDD and 512GB SSD (Samsung PM991). In our tests, the PM991 performed unusually well (1225 MB / s sequential write, 1980 MB / s sequential read). Unfortunately there is no extra M.2 slot available. So you don’t have the chance to use two SSD + HDDs.

On the sound side, Lenovo has received support from Dolby Atmos for virtualization  . I have to mention that I find virtualization performance very successful even in games. The sound level is sufficient, the only thing missing is that the bass performance is very, very poor. Sound too high-pitched can be tiring after a while.

Lenovo  used Intel AX201, a Wi-Fi 6 solution, as the wireless network adapter, and Realtek’s RTL8168 / 8111 series as a gigabit Ethernet card. Of course  Killer is  not on Ethernet performance but it does its job.

We mentioned that there is a 230W power adapter next to the product. The battery capacity is 60Wh. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 graphics chip, which you can switch with a single button to prevent the RTX 2060 from consuming power on the desktop, also works and provides up to 7 hours of battery life while surfing the net and watching videos. As you know, this time in games is too short to be considered a statistic.

Lenovo Legion 5  is a product that works noisy under load, just like other laptops. If the sound disturbs you a lot, you  can switch to “calm” mode from the Lenovo Vantage software that comes with the product  , of course this is for daily work. In our tests ,  we saw that under load, the CPU temperature  can reach 91 degrees and the GPU temperature  can reach 77 degrees . These values are neither good nor bad. At the level we expected. The heat reflected on the keyboard is better than many of its competitors, you have a cooler experience in general, the insulation is well made.

Let’s get to the performance side. While the system  reached 17375 points in 3D Mark , we had the chance to test it in a few more games. In Far Cry 5 ‘s Ultra mode, the system reaches amazing values like 98 FPS, 45 FPS (Ultra) in Red Dead Redemption 2 , which is a real system monster and struggles with optimization problems,  and in a high density area in Microsoft Flight Simulator , which we can call the first new generation game  While flying, it reached 55 FPS values in Ultra settings. You can see that the RTX 2060 will continue to remain competitive in all the games that will be released in the recent past.

Summing up

Lenovo also has a bonus. When you buy the computer, you will receive a good enough gaming mouse like the Lenovo Legion M300. The price of the computer, which is an extremely powerful alternative in its class, is also very good according to the features it offers, now  you can get it for 13,500 TL .
